Russian troops are shelling Europe's largest nuclear power plant in Ukraine, ENERHODAR.

In a video released on Telegram, Andriy Tuz, a spokesperson for the Enerhodar facility, said, "We demand that they halt the heavy weapons firing." "In Europe's largest atomic power facility, there is a real possibility of nuclear disaster."

About a quarter of Ukraine's electricity is generated at the plant.

Tuz informed Ukrainian media that shells were dropping straight on the Zaporizhzhia plant, causing one of the complex's six reactors to catch fire. He claimed that while the reactor is closed for renovations and is not operational, there remains nuclear fuel within.

Firefighters are unable to approach the fire due to gunfire, according to Tuz.

A live-streamed security camera linked from the nuclear power plant's site showed armored vehicles entering the parking area and putting headlights on the building where the camera was installed. Then there are what appear to be intense muzzle flashes from vehicles, followed by near-simultaneous explosions in the nearby buildings. Then a plume of smoke erupts and drifts across the scene.

The violence in Enerhodar, a city on the Dnieper River that generates a quarter of the country's electricity, occurred as the two sides reached a tentative agreement to establish safe corridors within Ukraine to evacuate civilians and supply humanitarian aid.

Ukrainian soldiers are fighting Russian troops on the outskirts of Enerhodar, according to the mayor. Just a day after the UN atomic monitoring agency expressed deep concern that the fighting could cause unintended damage to Ukraine's 15 nuclear reactors, video showed flames and black smoke rising over the city of more than 50,000, with people flowing past smashed automobiles.
